Colourful Portulaca

It has been very hot recently. Despite rain in other parts of Klang Valley, Subang Jaya remains dry and hot! I have to check on my Hydrangea daily upon returning home as it is the most susceptible to the scorching afternoon heat.

Recently I bought 5 packs of Portulaca from Danny's stall at Amcorp Mall's Sunday Flea Market. The plants came in various colour. I decided to put all 5 packs in one pot. They turned out lovely when they all bloom at the same time. And the Portulaca plants have bigger blooms too.

Here is my pot of Portulaca:

Beautiful Salmon Pink colour.

A fuschia colour bloom.

A white bloom.

An orange bloom.

A peach pink bloom.

An incidental Cockscomb plant that grew from seeds of my earlier Cockscomb plant that has since RIP.

Nice colours! It's pretty. You are right, it has been quite cloudy/hazy and rainy over here in PJ. I hope you will get some rain soon.

Beautiful colours! So gorgeous! Did you stop by Bookxcess in Amcorp Mall, top floor? Books are really, really cheap! New books! There's a magazine corner, imported ones, really cheap too. Maybe you already knew! :)

PS: Regarding little bird plant, I replied your question at my blog already.

That's so neat how they all come out of the same plant, but they are different colors.

Very nice!

The flowers look alright.... and cockscomb is nice. Ours is colourful only at the top inch, the rest at the bottom fade and dry up quick....

Thank you everyone for your comments.

Kitchen Flavours, I love hanging out at BookExcess to browse books. The prices of the books are also very fair. I like to buy my books there. In fact during my birthday last year, I got 2 gardening books from there. Fyi, I love hanging out at Amcorp Mall on Sundays when the Flea Market is on. Another reason is to eat my favourite Kimchi Chigae at the Korean Restaurant located on the 3rd floor, next to McD.

Steph, thanks for your sharing on the Bird's Plant. I hope we can save my sister's plant.

Oh, I have the same problem with my hydrangea. Everyday when I get home, all I have to do is look at it to see if it is droopy.

I didn't know you can grow moss rose from seeds.
Normally I use cuttings an infact they even root when place in water within few days.
But the problem is I rarely get good sunshine and they never seem to bloom.

Hi Seasonal One,

Just like James, I didn't know that you can grow portulaca from seeds. I bought seedlings from our flea market. They came in 5 tiny packets and I planted all 5 in this pot. That's how I get the combination of different colours. I love them as they bloom brightly and enormously! It's a joy to be greeted by them in the morning!
