Lady B's Progress Report

Two buds are found on my brinjal plant, Lady B. It's my first attempt in growing brinjal. I bought a seedling of the brinjal from the Shah Alam Farmers' Market. Lady B is my fastest growing vegetable. I have only brought it home for 5 weeks and it has grown so much taller and even produce 2 little buds for me. I can't wait to see the purple fruits that it will soon bear me.

Planting Brinjal Seedling

After reading BangChik & KakDah's posting on brinjals in their My Little Vegetable Garden, I feel very keen to try planting brinjal. So, I made a trip to the Shah Alam Farmers' Market to purchase brinjal seeds.

Unfortunatly there is no brinjal seeds available from the Agriculture students stall. So I opt to buy the seedling of a round brinjal for RM2. That's the beginning of my relationship with Lady B ('B' for Brinjal)! I hope it will be a smooth ride for both of us.

I placed Lady B in a pot upon returning home. Lucky that we have a small garden at the back of the house. I grow edible plants here. It has been 2 weeks since I brought this seedling home and seems like it is growing healthily. I look forward to the days when I can share with you photos of brinjals growing on Lady B.

Brinjal in My Garden

These are brinjals shoot growing from the seeds that I sowed. I got the seeds from a nursery that plants brinjal and chillies commercially. The nursery guy suggested that I used the soil from them ~ combination of river sand and pulps from oil palm. He assured me that's how they plant their brinjals.

I have re-pot the brinjals. It's my first organic farming and I am not sure how long would it take before I can see brinjals hanging from this plant. I am getting excited about growing vegies in my garden and practically every day I would check on it to see how much taller it has grown. Can someone tell me how long would it take before I can harvest fruit? And does brinjal plant likes sun or shade?
